Using period natural dyes from the Alum Triformate experiments I am recreating an Oseberg tablet woven band, using Shelagh Lewins' pattern.

Using the linen from the Aluminium Triformate project, and the narrow Oseberg braid produced from the subsequent project, I created a mostly hand-sewn Birka tunic with trim. The linen is dyed with heather, a material presumed to have been used in Viking period dyeing. The silk for the narrow Oseberg braid is also dyed in the same heather batch, and the alternating silk is dyed with madder.
